Heather Carrick
Reporter

Heather Carrick is the late reporter for NationalWorld covering UK and world news, with a focus on international politics. She is currently based in Edinburgh.

Her work includes writing breaking stories on a range of topics, while also explaining the biggest stories of the day and writing longer features about anything from US elections to Vladimir Putin’s Russia to China and its relationship with the West. For the first anniversary of the war in Ukraine, she worked with her colleagues to create a range of stories, including written articles, podcasts and videos. This included experiences from a Ukrainian refugee now living in the UK and analysis from strategy experts about the state-of-play in Ukraine.

She has also written about her own health experience, with a personal column about being diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease.

While politics reigns supreme in her work, in her free time she loves to read, listen to music and go to live music and theatre events. She also has a love for film and television, especially the Eurovision Song Contest. Heather has worked on stories at NationalWorld which combines her love for Eurovision with interesting angles, such as the symbolic nature of Ukraine’s win in 2022 during the war.

She grew up in Glasgow and graduated from the University of Stirling with a BA in Journalism Studies in 2019. Heather previously worked in local news at the Glasgow Times as a Community Reporter.
