St Monica's boxer Daire McGuinness wins his third All-Ireland title


On Saturday past, Daire McGuinness from St Monica’s Boxing Club won the Boy 4, 48kg title after beating his opponent Tyler Waldron from Castlerea, Co. Roscommon by unanimous decision.
After controlling the contest from the first round the referee raised Daire’s hand to claim the All Ireland title.

Hide AdCoach Dessie Toman said: “This was an excellent performance from Daire winning all three rounds.


“Daire never took a backward step. He threw a lot of quality punches and kept the pressure on his opponent from the very start.
“His work rate and commitment to training, along with travelling the country over these last few months getting quality sparring in, has paid off.
“He is a great example to any boxer who wants to do well. This is Daire’s third All-Ireland and he’ll be back at the club training, hoping to make it fourth at the end of this month when he’ll be competing in the National Cadet Championships.”

Hide AdThe club has a busy few weeks coming up with the All-Irelands.
This week St Monica’s have Kayla Harris Girl 3 in the 39kg category and Joseph McParland Boy 4 competing in the 33 kg category.
In three weeks’ time, James McCann will be also be boxing in the Youth 2, 50kg category.
This is what these three boxers have trained for all year – to be Irish Champions.
