St John Bosco boxers deliver double All-Ireland success at the National Stadium

There are moments in sport that define clubs, communities, and generations — and this past weekend in Dublin’s National Stadium was one of them.

In a display of grit, skill, and unshakable determination, St John Bosco Newry’s boxers rose to the grandest stage of Irish amateur boxing and delivered a performance that will be remembered for years to come. Against the very best talent from across the country, they didn’t just compete — they conquered.

Leading the charge were two outstanding young athletes who etched their names into Irish boxing history.

Harry Lundy, competing in the Boy 3 29kg division, showcased heart well beyond his years. With composure, sharp technique, and relentless drive, Harry battled his way to the top of the podium to be crowned Champion of Ireland. A performance built on discipline and courage, his victory is a testament to the hard work put in behind the scenes — in the gym, on the road, and through every challenge faced along the way.

Equally remarkable was Sophie Larkin, who once again proved her class on the national stage. Competing in the Girl 3 51kg division, Sophie delivered a series of dominant performances to claim her second consecutive Irish title — a phenomenal achievement that places her firmly among the elite in her category. Her consistency, resilience, and boxing intelligence continue to set her apart, and she shows no signs of slowing down.

But Sophie’s journey doesn’t stop here. In the coming weeks, she will enter a high-stakes box-off as she bids for selection to represent her country at the prestigious 4 Nations tournament in Scotland this June. It’s another huge opportunity — and one she has more than earned through her dedication and excellence.

These victories are not just individual triumphs — they are a reflection of a thriving boxing community. Behind every punch thrown and every hand raised are coaches who give their time selflessly, families who provide unwavering support, and teammates who push each other to be better every single day.

These Irish titles are also a powerful testament to the relentless hard work, commitment, and dedication of the coaching team — individuals who continue to build champions year after year. To bring Irish titles back to the club for four consecutive years is no coincidence; it is the result of consistency, belief, and an unwavering standard of excellence that runs through the very core of the club.

To come away from the All-Ireland Championships with two national champions is a monumental achievement — one that fills the club, its supporters, and the entire community with immense pride.

This is more than success. This is legacy in the making. And make no mistake — this is only the beginning.
