Mullaghbawn's Paddy McAteer makes history in American football debut

Mullaghbawn man Paddy McAteer made his debut for the Troy University Trojans on Saturday night, doing his family and his club proud in the process.

The 20-year-old was on on kick-off duties and he fired one into the endzone for a touchback, not allowing the opposition a chance to return the football.

McAteer only began kicking a football in April of this year and only arrived in the United States on August 21 – just 10 days before being trusted to take to the field for his debut.

Whilst it was a great night for McAteer on a personal level, it was a tough night for the Trojans as they lost 28-26 against Nevada.

They meet Memphis on Saturday September 7.

Everyone in Mullaghbawn and the surrounding areas will be keeping a keen eye on his progress in the coming weeks and months.
