All-Ireland MFC Final. Sunday July 7 (2pm) at Healy Park: Armagh v Derry

Armagh Minor forward James McCooe spoke ahead of this Sunday’s All-Ireland final against Derry, and he’s hopeful that the Orchard County’s supporters come out in force to get behind the team.

“We’re improving game on game, so we’ll see how we deal in the final,” he said.

“Hopefully we will get a big crowd out from Armagh who will get behind us. There hasn’t been much success over the past few years, but we’re a good team and it’ll be a good result if we can win this final.”

Armagh strutted their stuff in an impressive seven-point win over Mayo in the semi-final and McCooe says that the hard work the players have put in all year is starting to bear fruit.

“We have worked all year for this,” said the Clann Eireann man.

“When you have trained this hard, you meet people from different clubs and you’re gelling together. We’ll give it our best and see what happens.

“We have been training hard, moving the ball fast, it’s hard to beat that. We’ll just keep going and see where it takes us.”

In that semi-final against Mayo the game was level at the break, but Armagh flew out of the traps for the second half, dominated the 30 minutes of action and won reasonably comfortably in the end.

McCooe says that the performance came from Armagh’s hard work.

“We knew that we needed to work harder,” he said.

“Everyone dug in and we got the result we needed, which was good.”
