Newry City defender Barney McKeown departs for Glenavon

A deal has been reached which will see Barney McKeown leave Newry City to join Premiership side Glenavon, the Lurgan-based club have confirmed.

McKeown enjoyed a good season, and was recently awarded the club’s Player of the Year at their awards night in May.

The former Everton Academy player featured 49 times for Newry and scored two goals across two spells with the club.

The departing McKeown will leave a hole to plug in the centre of City’s defence, as they go in search of returning immediately to the top-flight.
