Newry City sank to the bottom of the Premiership table on Saturday afternoon, after they were beaten comprehensively by Dungannon Swifts.
Newry were missing their first choice midfield of Liam Bagnall, Ciaran O’Connor and Thomas Lockhart, and it showed, as they were overrun in the middle of field, whilst their defence – which has now shipped 45 goals in 17 games – were cut wide open time and time again.

The Swifts young strikeforce of Matthew Lusty and Tomas Galvin ran riot in the first half, combining for three goals in the opening 35 minutes, which put Newry on the ropes.

Gary Boyle’s side did pull a goal back before half-time which gave them a lifeline, as Swifts defender Dean Curry put the ball in the back of his own net.
The visitors had chances early in the second half for Adam Carroll which would have made for an interesting conclusion to the game, but crucially the fifth goal of the game went the way of Dungannon’s Ethan Devine and that put the result beyond doubt.
Newry City now sit with 10 points through 17 games, having scored 16 goals and conceded 45.

They have yet to win any league games at home this season and will be hoping to change that this Friday evening when they play Glenavon at The Showgrounds.
