Goals from Cathal O’Reilly and Benny Coulter had them 2-0 up at the half-time whistle and although Lurgan pulled one back, the Celts remained in control.

Mark Hughes restored their two-goal lead before Declan Monaghan found the net from the penalty spot on 70 minutes and from open play on 80 minutes to round out an emphatic win.

Magheralin Village 0 Mayobridge 3

Mayobridge continued their good form in the cup competitions with a 3-0 win away to Magheralin Village.

The Bridge were the only Carnbane League team to win in the IFA Junior Cup last weekend, and they carried that form into the Mid Ulster Shield.

The home side missed a penalty in the opening five minutes of the game and Mayobridge took a 1-0 lead into the break when Conor Garvey found the net on the stroke of half-time.

Jamie Barr pushed the Carnbane League side’s lead out further midway through the second half and Liam Mathers completed the job 10 minutes from time to seal an impressive win for the Bridge.

Newry Celtic 4 Ballybot United 1

It was an all-Carnbane League clash at Artie Green Park with Newry Celtic taking on Ballybot United.

Despite the Celts coming in as favourites, it was the Bot who took an early lead via David Mallie on seven minutes.

They held that lead for most of the first half, but Newry Celtic’s Brian Hobden levelled matters on the stroke of half-time.

The Celts began to take control and although Stephen Wylie missed from the penalty spot, quickfire goals from Colm Fegan and Ryan Fearon early in the second half gave them a comfortable lead.

Eoin McGivern sealed the deal with Newr Celtic’s fourth goal on 89 minutes.

Villa Rovers 4 Newmill Reserves 0

Eoin Devlin was in inspired form on Saturday as Villa Rovers breezed past Newmill Reserves.

Devlin hit a hat trick of goals in the first half scoring on minutes 17, 26 and 37 to give his side a comfortable 3-0 advantage.

Villa weren’t going to be caught from there and the reigning Bessbrook Cup champions booked their place in the next round of the Mid Ulster Shield with Aodhan Conlon putting the icing on the cake in the second half.

Ballyholland 0 Ballyoran 4

Ballyoran were too strong for Ballyholland on Saturday, triumphing 4-0. Just one goal separated the sides with 15 minutes to play, but the MUFL Division 1 side rattled off three late goals to put some daylight between the sides.

Castlecaulfield Reserves 4 Newry Rovers 0

Castlecaulfield Reserves ran out comfortable winners against Newry Rovers on Saturday. David Lee was the main man, as he netted a brace.

Church Street 1 St Mary’s Reserves 5

Gilford Crusaders 3 Millburn United 1

Despite taking an early lead, Millburn United were knocked out of the Mid Ulster Shield by Gilford Crusaders. An Andrew Heaney goal midway through the second half made it 3-1 and put the game beyond doubt.

Greenfield Park 1 Warrenpoint Town Reserves 4

Greenfield Park were up against it, taking on Warrenpoint Town Reserves, and they were defeated 4-1. The game was level until the seventy-fourth minute but the Point found the net three times late on.

Hanover Reserves 8 Cartwheel United 3

Cartwheel United were overmatched on Saturday, conceding eight times as they fell to defeat against Hanover Reserves. Corey Devlin found the net four times for the victors.

Orchard United 2 Goodyear 2 (4-5 pens)

Orchard United were desperately unlucky on Saturday. First, they conceded an equalising goal in the ninetieth minute, before coming out on the wrong side of a penalty shoot out against Goodyear.

Parkview 0 Newry City Reserves 3

Parkview’s Mid Ulster Shield campaign came to an end at the hands of Newry City Reserves. City’s Daniel O’Sullivan had the ball in the back of the net twice inside the opening 24 minutes and Jude Whitten finished the job with a third goal midway through the second half.

Seapatrick Reserves 9 Archview United 2

Archview United suffered a heavy defeat on Saturday, losing out by seven goals against Seapatrick Reserves. It was an onslaught from start to finish with the home side leading 7-0 before Archview found their first goal on 75 minutes. However, Seapatrick would go on to tag on two more goals late on.

Carnbane League

Division 1

Lisdrum Youth 3 Ashgrove Rovers 4

With all the Mid Ulster Shield action happening there was just one league match in the Carnbane League and what a game it was, as Ashgrove Rovers triumphed in a seven-goal thriller.

Niall Dornan put Lisdrum Youth into the lead with the first goal of the game, before the ball hit the net three times in the space of five minutes.

JP McCabe scored for Ashgrove, Ronan Quinn replied for Lisdrum and Jordan Copeland levelled the game up once again all in the blink of an eye.

In the second half, Ashgrove took a 3-2 lead when JP McCabe converted from the penalty spot and Ryan McKeown’s goal on 84 minutes all but secured the win. Lisdrum kept battling and Quinn pulled one back, but Ashgrove left with the win.
