A Met Office map shows when heavy rain will hit Northern Ireland, as the forecaster issues a rain warning.

The yellow rain warning is in place for Northern Ireland from 06:00 to 21:00 today (June 12).

The warning reads: “Heavy rain will move northwards across Northern Ireland during Thursday and may lead to some disruption in places.

“There is a good chance driving conditions will be affected by spray, standing water, leading to longer journey times by car and bus. Delays to train services are possible. Some flooding of a few homes and businesses possible. Some short term loss of power and other services is likely.

“An area of rain will move northwards across Northern Ireland during Thursday, before clearing during the late afternoon and evening.

“The rain will be locally heavy with thunderstorms. A few places perhaps receiving 10 mm of rain in an hour, and 30-40 mm in 3-6 hours, leading to a risk of disruption.

“Winds will also be strong at times, perhaps gusting to 40-45 mph around hills and coasts.”

Showers or longer periods of rain at first, heavy early evening with a diminishing risk of thunderstorms. Gradually turning drier late evening and through the night, but remaining cloudy. Minimum temperature 9 °C.

June 13

Cloudy start with some early patchy rain, otherwise sunshine and a few well scattered showers, these chiefly appearing during the afternoon and turning heavier later. Maximum temperature 23 °C.

June 14 to June 16

Sunshine and afternoon showers for Saturday. Rather cloudy for Sunday and Monday with some patchy rain, this focused in the north and west.
