MLA asks for Carlingford Lough greenway extension

The Minister for Infrastructure has been asked to consider linking greenways on the Warrenpoint side of Carlingford Lough when Narrow Water Bridge is completed.

Liz Kimmins was asked by South Down MLA, Andrew McMurray, as she was giving a statement to the Assembly on a recent meeting of the North-South Ministerial Council.

In response she said: "At this stage, that has not been considered, but it is something that we could certainly look at, given the design of the Narrow Water bridge. That is aimed at tourism and at more active travel. I am happy to consider that and to come back to the Member on it."

Following the meeting, Mr McMurray said he was pleased that the Minister will look at the idea.

“This would greatly improve our active travel infrastructure and support tourism in the area," he said.

"The Minister promised to get back to me on the proposal and I look forward to seeing what can be done.”
