Newry City Councillor Aidan Mathers has said that news the Newry City Centre Park project is now ready to go to the planning stage, is welcome.

The Sinn Féin councillor explained, “The Environmental Agency (NIEA) has completed out its investigations and surveys so the project is ready to go to the planning stage early in the new Year.

“Site surveys have been carried out to allow additional works beyond the park to be shovel ready. These surveys enable the Council to identify other sources of funding as it moves forward with its planning for the project”.

Councillor Mather’s concluded by stating, “This is a very welcome development and moves the vision of a fully resourced and accessible City Centre Park closer to a reality that we all want”.
