Casement opportunity is ‘a penalty kick in an open goal’: McNulty
Justin McNulty has welcomed the “signs of leadership” coming from Keir Starmer, after he indicated that the UK Government is preparing to meet the funding shortfall to ensure that Casement is constructed in time for the 2028 Euros.
Mr. McNulty is a staunch advocate for the Casement Park project, and has likened the opportunity to “a penalty kick in an open goal”.

Hide AdSpeaking in response to recent developments, Mr McNulty said: “I welcome the positive signals coming from Keir Starmer in relation to Casement. He has identified the redevelopment of Casement Park as a priority for his new government, and he is to be commended on that.
“The dithering around Casement Park has been deeply frustrating for those of us who can see the enormous potential that would flow from a redeveloped Casement.
“This isn’t just about investment in an area that has been ignored, it’s not just about the jobs that will be created through construction, or the memories that will be created in a new home for Ulster GAA. It’s not even about the massive footfall and positive attention that hosting the Euros will generate for the North. It’s about the quantum leap forward that a redeveloped Casement would provide in uniting local communities and bringing us all together.
“Imagine the enormous symbolism of a Northern Ireland soccer team playing in front of a home crowd at Casement Park. That would be a powerful demonstration of how far we have come from the days of the past.
“That is the kind of message we should be projecting to the world - of an outward looking society coming into its stride and standing as a positive example of the power of peace and reconciliation.”
