Funeral to be held on Tuesday for 13-year-old Tiarnán Trainor


Tiarnán died following an incident involving a quad bike on the Low Road on Thursday, January 2.
He was taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast where he tragically passed away.

Hide AdKnown as TT, a funeral notice described him as the “loved and cherished son of Conor & Majella Campbell, Conor’s partner Sharon and Majella’s partner Scott. Much loved brother of Aimee and Ellie-Mae. Devoted grandson of Donal & Mary Trainor and Gervase & Teresa Campbell."


Tiarnán’s remains will repose at his late home, 20 Castle View, Jonesborough today (Monday) from 3pm until 10pm, before removal on Tuesday at 12pm for 12.30pm Requiem Mass in the Church of the Sacred Heart, Jonesborough.
Burial will take place afterwards in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Dublin Road, Cloughoge. The house will be private on Tuesday morning.
His school, St Paul’s High School in Bessbrook, said they were “heartbroken” by the news of Tiarnán’s death.

Hide Ad“Tiarnán was a much loved and popular Year 10 pupil who was recently elected by his peers to serve on the Student Council,” they said.
"Tiarnán had an infectious personality and was well known throughout the school as a lorry fanatic. He took full part in last year’s ski trip and enjoyed a number of weeks last summer at Coláiste Mhuire Loch an Iúir in the Donegal Gaeltacht.”
The school’s oratory was open over the weekend for any pupil and their family who wished to come together, to remember Tiarnán and to mourn his loss together. Staff from the school’s Care and Welfare team were present to support pupils.
The Education Authority’s Critical Incident Team, as well as school staff, were on hand help and support pupils as they returned to school this morning (Monday).

Hide AdThe school added: “We extend our heartfelt sympathies to Tiarnán’s family, to his friends and to everyone who knew him. May the Lord grant rest to his eternal soul.”
Tiarnán was a former pupil at Jonesborough Primary School, who said that they had learned of his tragic accident “with deep sadness”.
"As a community we stand in compassion with Tiarnán's family, understanding that words cannot soothe the heart break of loss nor grief, especially when a life ends so prematurely,” they said.
“Tiarnán was a warm, lively and spirited boy, who will be fondly remembered by all.”

Hide AdTiarnán played for Killeavy GAA’s U14s. They cup said that they were heartbroken at the loss of a young life taken too soon.
The club opened over the weekend for young players who needed support or who just wanted to visit the club.
"Like all our younger members, Tiarnan was a much loved & very valued part of our club family,” they said in a social media post.
“Our main duty at this time is to respect Tiarnan’s family, friends and teammates and to support them in their grief & help them navigate their way through the coming days.

Hide Ad“In doing so we want to remember Tiarnan as the bright, loving boy he was and who was loved by so many.
“As a club we will be supporting our younger team members & Tiarnan’s friends and will gather together to support and guide them, but also to share many happy memories we have of him and to honour the precious time we had with him as part of Killeavy GAC.”
Slieve Gullion Scouts said they were “deeply saddened” to learn of Tiarnán’s passing, adding that they had many fond memories of him in Cubs, while Coláiste Mhuire said their hearts “are heavy with sorrow” following Tiarnán’s tragic passing.
"Tiarnán was a student on Cúrsa A last year and was due to come back on Cúrsa C this year,” they said.

The PSNI’s Inspector Cherith Adair appealed for information in relation to the incident.
"An investigation to establish the circumstances is underway and anyone who may have witnessed the collision or anyone with CCTV, dash-cam or doorbell footage that could help with enquiries, is asked to contact police on 101 quoting reference CW 785– 02/01/25,” she said.
