Emma (7) uses her pedal power to raise over £1,000

A Newry charity has praised a seven-year-old girl who has raised over £1,000 a good cause.

Emma Cordner has been inspired to fundraise on behalf of Newry Cancer Research, who support the work of Cancer Research UK in Northern Ireland by fundraising to support the work of several research groups at Queens University, Belfast and Cancer Centre at Belfast City Hospital.

This amazing idea started at a recently held coffee morning at Shanlieve Caravan Park, hosted by Rosalind McCullough and her fellow committee members.

Emma took on this incredible challenge during the month of August cycling around Shanlieve Caravan Holiday Park at Cranfield and around her home of Portadown every day to raise funds for Newry Cancer Research.

Come rain or shine, Emma was determined to cover 34 miles to support this vital cause and exceed her target in cycling over 50 miles and raised fantastic sum in excess and of £1046.

Speaking on behalf of Newry Cancer Research, Rosalind McCullough stated: “We couldn't have been more proud in Emma, who wanted to find out more on how she could help to raise awareness of the work we do and fundraise.

"Emma certainly put her pedal power to work, and we couldn't praise her enough.

“On behalf of Newry Cancer Research Fundraising Committee we extend our heartfelt thanks to Emma, her family & friends for supporting her efforts and everyone who generously donated."
