Celebration of ‘love, acceptance and equality’ promised as date is confirmed for return of Newry Pride

The organisers, LGBTQ+ Women’s Group Newry, have urged everyone to mark their calendars for Saturday, August 31, “as we come together to celebrate love, acceptance, and equality”.

The group say that they are “overjoyed to be able to bring back this important community event for the first time in five years, thanks to funding awarded by the National Lottery Community Fund. A massive thank you to them for helping us make this happen!”

However, they still want help to make the event a success.

A spokesperson for the group said: “Local businesses looking to support the LGBTQ+ community and gain visibility can become event sponsors. By sponsoring Newry Pride, businesses will receive prominent publicity and recognition during the festivities.

"We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the National Lottery Community Fund for awarding Newry Pride 2024 a generous grant of £20,000. Their support enables us to create an unforgettable celebration for everyone.

Community groups, schools, political parties, and local businesses are invited to participate in the colourful Pride Parade. The spokesperson continued: “Although we have secured funding to cover the cost of a concert / festival event on the day, there are costs to run the parade itself which we currently have no reserves to cover.

"We're asking people to donate, if they can, to help us make Newry Pride 2024 a dazzling success.
