Minister pays visit to Women’s Aid ​Armagh Down

​Economy Minister Caoimhe Archibald visited the Women's Aid Armagh Down (WAAD) Resource Centre on the Downshire Road in Newry last Wednesday afternoon.

The Minister heard about the vital work that WAAD does in the local area supporting women and children impacted by domestic abuse.

The Minister also got to walk around the site of Phase 1 of the new ELEOS (Engagement, Learning, Empowerment, Opportunity and Support) Centre of Excellence for early intervention for women and young people dealing with domestic abuse.

She heard about the challenges around delivering funding for this project and the economic, as well as social and wellbeing benefit, it could bring to the local community.

The centre will be the first of its kind in the north.
