Warrenpoint hero on and off the pitch
Saturday night was one of celebrations for Warrenpoint Town FC who rounded off a wonderful season with the clubs award evening, but nobody expected the dramatic turn of events that took place when the night wound down.
At around 3am when the happy comrades, who had celebrated winning the PIL League and chosen their winners, were leaving the Whistledown Hotel, Warrenpoint with awards in tow, a person was discovered in distress in the water of Carlingford Lough.

One of the players came to the person's rescue by going into the Lough and bringing them ashore to safety.
What a hero!
Unfortunately at the time, the brave player having stripped down to enter the water left his phone with his clothes and forgot it at the scene afterwards. The club sent out an appeal on social media on Sunday for the lost phone but luckily all's well that ends well and the Warrenpoint hero, who wishes to remain anonymous, was reunited with his phone on Monday with the club issuing the following statement regarding the incident on their Facebook page.
“We're glad to report that the phone has been reunited with the owner this morning. Thank you to everyone who shared the post.
The player would like to remain anonymous at this time, and will not be speaking to any news outlets or journalists regarding the evening. He is grateful for all the comments, and thanks the person who handed in the phone.
We will not provide any further comment at this time.”
