Police make appeal as Newry assault treated as ‘hate crime’

Police are appealing for information following a reported assault in Newry yesterday evening, Thursday, 9th January.

It was reported that at approximately 5.40pm, the victim was assaulted by a taxi driver outside retail premises in The Quays area.

At this time his injuries aren’t thought to be serious, however it was further reported that the suspect, a man aged in his 50s, also used racially discriminatory language and as such this matter is being investigated as a hate crime.

Police are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed anyone suspicious that could assist with enquiries to get in touch on 101 quoting reference 1392 09/01/25.
