Making the headlines in our April 17, 2003 edition...
- Cold-hearted thieves broke into the home of an elderly Newry man while he was in bed and stole the measly sum of £3 – less than the price of a packet of cigarettes.
- Seventy-five PlayStation 2 games were stolen during an armed robbery in Newry’s Monaghan Street.
- Eighty social workers employed in the Newry and Mourne Health and Social Services Trust began a 48-hour strike in support of a pay and grading claim.
- And there was plenty of interest in one of the most important house contents sales of the year- the Mourne Park auction. Over 1,500 lots were on offer, which had been the property of the Wilson family for 300 years.
