Back in 1994 I was probably working out who my favourite Power Ranger was, but apparently there was a whole world of other things going on.
The Newry Reporter from March 31, 1994, reported on the visit of President Mary Robinson to the town, as it was back then.
There was also revulsion following a cowardly attack on Cllr John Fee at his home – but he was being defiant, telling the Reporter that his attackers “won’t silence me!”
Just as it has been in recent years, the Reporter was also going through changes in 1994. The March 31 edition was the last in its current format with the paper being published from the following week in a more compact size.
And in sport there was a massive honour for Warrenpoint woman Mrs Belle O’Loughlin, who was appointed President of the All-Ireland Camogie Association.
