The headlines in that week’s Newry Reporter saw the district prepare to go to the polls for the council elections, with 46 candidates battling it out for 30 seats.
There was also a mortar attack on the army barracks in Bessbrook.
And tens of thousands of pilgrims were expected to throng Newry Cathedral to pay their respects to the relics of St Therese of Lisieux.
