The Department of Health is inviting people to attend a series of public events as part of the consultation on the hospital reconfiguration framework.

The consultation, “Hospitals – Creating a Network for Better Outcomes”, was launched on October 2 and sets out the key principles to underpin service reorganisation.

The aim of the consultation is to address a number of areas including the need for hospital reconfiguration, how hospitals can work together for better outcomes, where services are and how people can get the services they need in a sustainable way.

Under the proposals Daisy Hill Hospital has been given general hospital status in new framework.

General hospitals will deliver defined secondary care services including unscheduled care, geared to a specific, more isolated geographical location. These hospitals also play an important part in the delivery of elective care to the region.

Following last month’s public meeting in Newtownards, the next public meeting will take place in the Western Health and Social Care Trust area, in Omagh, on Wednesday 15 January.

For the Southern Trust area, a meeting will take place in the Armagh City Hotel on Tuesday, February 18 from 7-9pm. There will also be an online event which is open to all on Tuesday, February 11 from 7-9pm.

The consultation deadline has now been extended until 28 February 2025.
