McNulty advocates for Daisy Hill at Southern Trust meeting

Mr. McNulty asserted strongly that with population and growth projections and with the highest birth rate in the region, the full suite of maternity services should be retained at Daisy Hill's Maternity Unit.
He said: "It would be unacceptable for expectant mothers to face uncertainty about where they will give birth. We need a full, 24/7 maternity service at Daisy Hill, supported by adequate staffing and resources.

I am particularly concerned at the lack of progress in reaching agreement with experienced midwives who were asked to retire and return and who possess invaluable knowledge and skills. Agreeing with those highly skilled midwives a way forward to enable them to contribute could alleviate staffing pressures and enhance patient care.”
Mr McNulty continued: “In light of recent media reports concerning workplace culture within the Belfast Trust, I also raised the importance of a supportive environment for healthcare staff. Our healthcare professionals deserve a workplace that respects and supports them. A positive culture is essential for staff retention and patient safety.
"Daisy Hill Hospital is the backbone of our community's healthcare. I will continue to fight for its services and staff. I call on the Southern Trust and the Department of Health to prioritise investments, policies and practices that secure the hospital's future,” he concluded.
