The SOS Daisy Hill Hospital campaign group would like to remind the public that their AGM is on Wednesday, June 26, 2024 at 7.30pm in the Bank Restaurant Newry.

Hospital campaigner, Francis Gallagher, said "It is a mighty responsibility to conduct a citizens’ campaign to retain and enhance life saving services at Daisy Hill Hospital.

"We received a mandate over a year ago through a public meeting called in the Canal Court Hotel. We wish to renew that mandate through public endorsement at our upcoming AGM.

"This is not only to continue to make our group accountable to the public but to get the support and assistance from people who wish to help us achieve or main strategic objectives: (1) to keep Daisy Hill as an acute hospital with the full range of acute lifesaving services; (2) to lobby in the long term for more capital spend on Daisy Hill so it has the architecture build of a 21st century acute hospital; (3) to campaign for a reform of health service governance so hospital staff and public have autonomy and control over Daisy Hill’s future and how the hospital is run.

"Everyone has abilities and talents so if you the public would like to offer your skills for the future of Daisy Hill then please attend our AGM.

"Last year our valiant and dedicated committee were instrumental in organising one large indoor meeting and two mass rallies, one of which was attended by over 10,000 people, and this was on the back of a well organised 12,000 response to the Southern Health Trust consultation on the emergency general surgery.

"Unfortunately it is highly likely that Stormont will be implementing more stripping away of services in the future and the community needs to be ready to respond.”
