Newry firm National Building Services voted Specialist Contractor of the Year

They were presented with the award, sponsored by Alan Milne Tractors & Takeuchi, during a glittering ceremony, compered by television and radio sports presenter Adrian Logan, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in South Belfast.

National Building Services, founded by Frank Glenn in 2008 and based in WIN Industrial Estate in Newry, has continuously evolved from a traditional maintenance company into a unique specialist contractor, now recognized as an industry innovator.

The company initially focused on compliance work for blue-chip clients, expanding into refurbishment services and then, five years ago, developing proprietary software solutions to address evolving client needs. These innovative solutions have established NBS as a leader in both maintenance services and energy-focused software technology, setting it apart in a highly competitive industry.

Over the past year, NBS has been highly attuned to the increasing importance of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) standards within the construction and facilities management industry. NBS has made strides in developing capabilities to guide clients on their journey through the property lifecycle—from design to build, maintenance, aftercare, and re-design.

Central to NBS’s unique service offering is the IMARI team, a specialized in-house group that emphasizes energy and carbon reduction solutions, executing projects with the expertise to Investigate, Monitor, Analyse, Recommend, and Implement sustainable practices.

NBS also stands out due to its robust, integrated approach to innovative technology development. Faced with limited industry solutions, NBS made the decisive move to build its own platform—an ecosystem of products tailored to provide transparency and resolve critical energy challenges in real-time. Organised by the Hillsborough based publishers of Plant & Civil Engineer, 4SM (NI) Ltd, the awards ceremony was attended by hundreds of guests and leading figures from the plant, construction and quarry industries. With 17 separate categories, the event is widely regarded as Ireland’s premier platform of recognition for those operating across all sectors of the industry.
