Lidl Northern Ireland’s 'Sport for Good' campaign

24 November 2021

Lidl Northern Ireland has launched its 2021 Sport for Good programme, partnering with Olympic athletes Rhys McClenaghan and Ciara Mageean and Paralympic swimmer, Bethany Firth MBE. Shoppers have until this Sunday 28th November to nominate their local secondary school, with 25 schools across Northern Ireland winning a Mental Health Athlete Mentorship programme, plus £1,000 worth of sports equipment for the school. Last year Newry High School and St Mary’s High School, Newry were among the winning schools bagging the free sports equipment as part of the scheme.

With 45 per cent of young people in Northern Ireland saying their mental health has worsened since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, this year’s Sport for Good campaign is focused on boosting young people’s social skills, self-esteem and body confidence through sports participation and supporting young people across the region with the roll out of a dedicated Mental Health Athlete Mentorship Programme in partnership with Youth Sport Trust.
